Performance Technologies Wins European Award as Originator
of Innovative Ethernet Backplane Standard
Press Inquiries
ROCHESTER,
NY - June 18, 2001 - Performance Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:
PTIX) today announced it has received the prestigious "Electron
d'Or" award for originating the compact packet switching backplane
architecture. The award, sponsored by France's Electronique
magazine, honors the best products of the year as chosen by
a jury of experts and users. Performance Technologies is being
honored in the "sub-systems" category.
The compact packet switching backplane architecture was proposed
by Performance Technologies and is currently being standardized
within the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG®)
2.16 working group. The architecture moves data traffic from
a shared CompactPCI® bus to an embedded Ethernet network,
enabling greater throughput rates and higher reliability. The
compact packet switching backplane architecture dramatically
improves the performance, scalability and reliability of CompactPCI
while preserving its H.110 bus, mechanical, power and hot-swap
attributes.
"The purpose of the Electron' d'Or award is to seek out and
recognize innovative systems such as these that will pave the
way to telecommunications applications of the future," said
Catherine Gross, senior technology editor at Electronique. "Performance
Technologies' compact packet switching backplane architecture
is considered a leader among its competitors because of its
ability to bypass the PCI bus and therefore alleviate the CompactPCI
bottleneck in voice-over-IP applications. The architecture now
sits with PICMG for ratification as an industry standard, which
was also a big consideration in the selection process."
"Performance Technologies is continually seeking ways for developers to design systems with greater speeds, higher
reliability and lower costs. The compact packet switching backplane architecture is a perfect example of this," said
Don Turrell, president and CEO of Performance Technologies. "Being honored with such an esteemed award from industry
experts underscores the magnitude and value of such technology. We will continue to develop innovative products
critical to the advancement of telecommunications and IP-telephony."
